Voici le dernier courriel que j'ai recu de lui, qui temoigne assez justement du style de pression sociale qui sevit au Japon.
Interesting start to our time in Yuri together. They tried to pull all kinds of shit the day she arrived, the worst saying that she couldn't live with me even after they knew for 2 months and were completely encouraging up until the minute she lands. Then big monkey from Honjo gets involved etc etc. Japanese morals get involved (not married + living together = bad influence for teacher to be making for pupils), fear of local riots (slight exaggeration but they are small minded enough).
Big meeting called, 2 hrs, Japanese, wank, kept my cool even though steaming, didn't even consider there ridiculous suggestions e.g. she can get an apartment in Honjo. They were stuck on morals.
In the end told them that this shit should have happened infinitely earlier and that I had done all that was required of me, that I considered it a betrayal of trust, and that the way I am feeling right now I would rather not be in Japan than to have this situation.
Result: Course they then start to think how she can live with me. Another hour of deliberating and then contrary to what I had been told earlier in the day it is OK if we are engaged. Now to the Yuri public Kelly is my fiancee.
There were other things involved, didn't budge on them either and the end result is that everything is exactly the same as last friday except I have a fiancee, they all think they are heros and I have lost a whole lot of love for Japan and trust in my employers.
